“Eye on the Naked City” sounds like an appropriate title for a photo retrospective of retired Daily News photographer Charles Ruppmann’s best tabloid work. The show, through Feb.25 at the the Field Library in Peekskill, also shows a real slice of Big Apple history.
Rebecca Lepkoff can’t picture putting her camera down — and she’s been shooting the city for 72 years now. “Of course I still take pictures,” says the 96-year-old shutterbug, who recently greeted guests to her new “Life on the Lower East Side” exhibit at the New York Tenement Museum.
Photographer Camilo José Vergara can tell the story of most any corner in Harlem. “All these used to be empty lots,” he says, pointing across Frederick Douglass Blvd. at 111th St. He points to Montreal Pet Care at 113th.
